Advanced Crochet Granny Square and Rectangle Blankets, Written Crochet Pattern, Free Video Tutorial

Most crocheters are familiar with the traditional granny square! After all, it’s a crochet classic piece that many beginners learn early on!

Once you learn how to make it, you can make a variety of crochet projects - from blankets and cushions, to bags and iPad covers, to tops, dresses, and sweaters! Not only can you use a variety of color combinations, but you can experiment and “advance” the granny stitch or granny square to the next level!

And that’s what I recently did! I took the granny square stitch as the basis and added a second round in a contrasting color yarn, which created a very beautiful design! I first made a baby size square blanket (30 by 30 inches), which was a hit in my Etsy shop and on my Youtube channel! After getting many requests, I adjusted the same pattern to a rectangular shape. I made at the rectangular afghan in the full throw size - 72 inches by 56 inches. But of course, the size can be adjusted to your liking!

One of the advantages of this afghan pattern is that the fabric looks the same on both sides. It almost looks as mosaic crochet, but in reality it’s just a granny square with one more round, which is quite easy but creates an absolutely stunning design! You should definitely give it a try!

I wrote very detailed patterns, which include images for visual help! And I went even further and created step-by-step video tutorials for both of these afghans!
