Sun Catcher Doily, Free Crochet Pattern
This is a simple and quick doily to make. It takes a small amount of thread and can be perfect for using up that leftover thread that you don't want to through away.

Measurements: about 8 inches across (after blocking)
Materials:
Steel hook 1.5 mm
Crochet cotton thread size 10
Gauge: not very important
Abbreviations:
ch: chain
dc: double crochet
tr: treble crochet
dc2-tog: 2 double crochet finished together
dc3-tog: 3 double crochet finished together
sl st: slip stitch
st: stitch
* * instructions between asterisks should be repeated as many times as there are stitches to accommodate them or as many times as stated.
{ } instructions within brackets should be repeated as many times as stated.
Ch 9, join with sl st in ring.
Round 1: ch 3 (counts as 1st dc), dc in ring, *ch 3, 2 dc in ring* seven times, end with ch 1, dc in 3rd ch of beginning ch-3 (this brings hook and yarn in position for the next round; 16 dc, 8 ch-3 spaces)
Round 2: ch 1, sc in same loop, *ch 5, sc in next ch-loop* around; end with ch 2, tr in 1st sc (this brings hook and yarn in position for the next round)
Round 3: ch 2, dc2-tog in top of last tr (counts as 1st dc3-tog), ch 9, *dc3-tog in 3rd ch of next ch-5, ch 9* around; join with sl st to top of 1st dc3-tog.
Round 4: sl st in 1st ch of next ch-9, ch 2, dc in next ch (counts as 1st dc2-tog), dc in next 2 ch, (dc, ch 3, dc) all in next ch, dc in next 2 ch, dc2-tog over next 2 ch, *dc2-tog over 1st and 2nd ch of next ch-9, dc in next 2 ch, (dc, ch 3, dc) all in next ch, dc in next 2 ch, dc2-tog over next 2 ch* around; join with sl st to top of 1st dc2-tog.
Round 5: sl st to 2nd ch of next ch-3, ch 2, dc2-tog in same ch (counts as 1st dc3-tog), ch 15, *dc3-tog in 2nd ch of next ch-3, ch 15* around; join with sl st to top of 1st dc3-tog.
Round 6: sl st in 1st ch of next ch-15, ch 2, dc in next ch (counts as 1st dc2-tog), dc in next 5 ch, (dc, ch 3, dc) all in next ch, dc in next 5 ch, dc2-tog over next 2 ch, *dc2-tog over 1st and 2nd ch of next ch-15, dc in next 5 ch, (dc, ch 3, dc) all in next ch, dc in next 5 ch, dc2-tog over next 2 ch* around; join with sl st to top of 1st dc2-tog.
Round 7: sl st to next ch-3 space, ch 1, sc in same ch-3 space, ch 17, *sc in next ch-3 space, ch 17* around; join with sl st to 1st sc.
Round 8: ch 1, sc in same st as joining, {ch 3, skip next ch, sc in next ch} eight times, ch 3, skip next ch, *sc in next sc, {ch 3, skip next ch, sc in next ch} eight times, ch 3* around; join with sl st to 1st sc.
Round 9: sl st in 2nd ch of next ch-3, ch 2, dc2-tog in same ch (counts as 1st dc3-tog), {ch 7, skip next ch-3, dc3-tog in 2nd ch of next ch-3} four times, *dc3-tog in 2nd ch of next ch-3 (no ch-3 skipping here), {ch 7, skip next ch-3, dc3-tog in 2nd ch of next ch-3} four times* around; join with sl st to 1st dc3-tog.
Round 10: sl st in 1st ch of next ch-7, ch 2, dc in next ch (counts as 1st dc2-tog), dc in next ch, (dc, ch 3, dc) all in next ch, dc in next ch, dc2-tog over next 2 ch, *dc2-tog over 1st and 2nd ch of next ch-7, dc in next ch, (dc, ch 3, dc) all in next ch, dc in next ch, dc2-tog over next 2 ch* around; join with sl st to 1st dc2-tog.
